The chalk stick and the parking enforcement cart are gone. Coeur d'Alene's new license plate recognition system has replaced the old method of tracking cars parked beyond legal time limit. Outfitted with cameras and hardware, a new city "parking enforcement" vehicle, seen here on Tuesday, is passing by parked cars and electronically noting their parking spots and the time. On a second pass, the system will alert if the car has overstayed its welcome.
