Coeur d'Alene's new license plate recognition system has replaced the old method of tracking cars parked beyond legal time limit. Outfitted with cameras and hardware, a new city "parking enforcement" vehicle, seen here on Tuesday, is passing by parked cars and electronically noting their parking spots and the time. On a second pass, the system will alert if the car has overstayed its welcome.
