Gookin gets forked

Dan Gookin woke up to a big surprise this morning.

Dozens of forks, prongs up, were sticking out of the Coeur d’Alene City Council member’s front lawn.

Meticulously placed in straight lines running from the sidewalk across the grass to Gookin’s front porch, the forks were not the only thing left for Gookin.

The utensils were accompanied with a copy of “Eat the Rich” a humorous look at economics by journalist and political satirist P.J. O’Rourke. The paperback was closed and bookmarked with yet another fork and a note that simply said, “Hi.”

“Woke up this morning to find my front yard forked!” Gookin posted on Facebook, along with a photo of the forking. “What kind of sick, evil person would do this?”

“I must either hide under my bed or ask her out to dinner. Decisions...”

It was obviously not a subversive message from a disgruntled, yet friendly taxpayer.

Gookin told The Press he was pranked by a friend.

“It’s not like it’s a protest or anything. She’s really cool. She’s back in town,” Gookin said. “She’s from San Diego. She’s really fun.”
