COEUR d’ALENE — Peyton Childers went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 16-and-under baseball team beat the Sandpoint Lakers 9-5 to win its four-team pool at the Washington class A American Legion district tournament Sunday at Thorco Field.

Double-elimination play starts today, with the Coeur d’Alene 16U team playing the Coeur d’Alene 14U team tonight at 6 at Thorco Field.

The Lumberman 14U squad finished second in its pool with a 2-1 record, beating Chewelah 11-1 on Sunday after losing to Whitman County 14-1 on Saturday.

Whitman County won that pool, and will play Shadle Park, which finished second behind the 16U Lums in its pool, today.

Tonight’s winners will meet on Tuesday; tonight’s losers will play Tuesday in a loser-out game.

Four teams from two pools in Spokane also advanced to double-elimination play today.

Eventually, the top four of the eight remaining teams will advance to the Washington state tournament.
