(More) road work ahead

COEUR d’ALENE — Interstate 90 construction in Coeur d'Alene next week will be in the eastbound lanes of from Ninth Street to Sherman Avenue.

Work will include asphalt paving and underground utility installation.

Work also will include reconstruction of the Sherman Avenue (Exit 15) eastbound I-90 off-ramp. Work will occur during daylight hours, Monday through Saturday. Motorists should anticipate increased travel times, speed reductions and lane shifts.

Between Ninth and Sherman I-90 will be reduced to one lane in each direction within the westbound portions of the freeway.

Work zone crossovers will be in effect for I-90 eastbound on- and off-ramps at the 15th Street (Exit 14) exit. The work zone speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph, and travel way lane widths will be reduced to 11 feet, with 15-feet of clear passage.

The Sherman Avenue eastbound off-ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. Sunday to 2 p.m. Friday, July 21 to accommodate its reconstruction.

The U.S. 95 (Exit 12), Fourth Street (Exit 13), and 15th Street (Exit 14) ramps will not be affected and are available for use as alternative routes. The 15th Street eastbound on- and off-ramps will reopen at 2 p.m. today.

Bridge work on I-90 starting Sunday will cause overnight closures through Wednesday as crews repair the failing roadway and joints in a 12-mile stretch starting at the Washington border.

There will be intermittent lane closures in both directions. The work extends from milepost 0 at the state line to milepost 12 at the U.S. 95 interchange.

The work will be done overnight from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day. Speed limit advisory signs will be posted at 45 mph in the work zone in the area of active work.

Interstate Concrete & Asphalt, of Rathdrum, is the contractor for the $19.8 million I-90 reconstruction project. Work is scheduled to occur through October 2018.

The project includes resurfacing the freeway, increasing height clearances between the travel way of I-90 and overpasses and improve traveler safety with new guard rail, signs and illumination.
