standout Nyquist

to play in WCL All-Star Game

Former Coeur d’Alene High standout Nick Nyquist was selected to play for the North team in the West Coast League All-Star Game, scheduled for next Tuesday at Yakima County Stadium in Yakima, Wash.

Nyquist, a third baseman for the Walla Walla Sweets, ranks 10th in the WCL in batting average (.331), second in at-bats (124), fourth in runs (28), fourth in hits (41), fourth in doubles (10), and second in stolen bases (10).

As a redshirt sophomore at Gonzaga, he batted .227 in 22 games.

The West Coast League is a summer wood-bat league for college players.

Bayley, Hatley advance

at Pacific Northwest Amateur

CRESWELL, Ore. — Derek Bayley of Rathdrum and Reid Hatley of Hayden advanced to the round of 32 at the 116th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championship at Emerald Valley Golf and Resort.

Bayley, a former Lakeland High standout and rising senior at Washington State, beat Hogan Arey of Corvallis, Ore., 5 and 3 to advance to face Li Wang of Sammamish, Wash., today.

Hatley beat Sean Fitzpatrick of Mill Creek, Wash., 7 and 6, and will face Zach Evens of Mercer Island, Wash., today.

The Rounds of 32 and 16 will be played today, with quarterfinals and semifinals on Friday and championship match on Saturday. Each match will be contested over 18 holes, with the exception of the final match, which will be played over 36 holes.

Williams-Goss to hold

youth basketball camp

After helping lead Gonzaga to its first national title game, Nigel Williams-Goss was selected with the 55th pick by the Utah Jazz in the 2017 NBA Draft, and will return to Spokane to host his first youth basketball camp Aug. 21-23 at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake.

The camp is open to boys and girls of all skill levels ages 7-14, and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Williams-Goss will provide instruction for up to four hours each day.

Cost is $200 before Aug. 1, and $225 until Aug. 15.
