| July 13, 2017 1:00 AM

Workshops to prepare volunteers to gather information on the region’s monarch butterflies and milkweed, are planned for Coeur d’Alene and Sagle.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game surveys for monarchs and milkweeds are conducted from late May through September. In North Idaho, surveys cover portions of the Panhandle and lower Clearwater Basin. The August workshop will include three sessions and a field trip.

The first session is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the WaterLife Discovery Center in Sagle. The second will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Coeur d’Alene’s Fish and Game office at 2885 W. Kathleen Ave. A morning field trip, Aug. 5, starts at 8 a.m. at the Coeur d’Alene office.

Participants in the free workshop will learn the basics of the monarch life cycle and migration, population trends, and conservation needs.

Pre-registration is required. To register, or for questions, email bethwaterbury@idfg.idaho.gov or call (208) 940-2754.
