Explosion improves to 4-0 in pool play
IRVINE, Calif. — Featuring several local players, the USA Explosion under-18 ASA softball team won two more games to improve to 4-0 in pool play after Thursday’s second day of play at the Champions Cup.
In the first game, Haley Loffer (Lake City High) went 3 for 4 as the Explosion beat Easton Preps of Palmdale, Calif., 12-3. Gracee Dwyer (University High) went 2 for 2, Bailee Taylor (Coeur d’Alene High) went 2 for 3, and Natalie Sell (Coeur d’Alene) struck out five and allowed one hit in three innings.
In the second game, Kylie Smith (Coeur d’Alene, College of Idaho signee), went 3 for 3 with two doubles as the Explosion beat the Lady Cobras from Colorado 5-2. Lexi Knauss (Meridian High) went 2 for 3 with a two-run homer, and Kaidron McClafferty (Butte, Mont.) struck out five in seven innings.
The Explosion wraps up pool play today against the Firecrackers Eastside at 4 p.m. and the SoCal A’s at 6.
