The Farragut Disc Golf Club has added an extra prize to its third tournament of the year, which begins this Saturday morning at Farragut State Park.

The club announced it plans to add a $200 Innova disc golf basket to the prize package at each of its remaining PDGA-sanctioned C-tier one-day tournaments held on the third Saturday of each month. Before the tournament all Farragut Disc Golf club members submit their membership bag tag into a drawing. One tag will be drawn during the first round player’s meeting, and the disc golf basket will be awarded to the club member with the best score that played in the same division as the player whose tag was drawn.

Only members can win the basket. Club memberships will be available at the event for $15 (bag tag) or $25 (bag tag and disc).

FDGC board member Ben Squires said the previous tournaments have accommodated players of all skill levels.

“We’re really trying to promote participation of all skill levels,” Squires said. “It can be an inexpensive introduction to the sport for people that have never played a tournament before.”

The “Farragut Fling’s” $35 entry fee applies to all PDGA members, $45 otherwise. Amateurs will receive a player’s pack that includes at least two discs of their choosing. The top three finishers in all divisions win medals.

Squires said the “Farragut Fling” offers a big advantage for experienced players.

“Cheap sanctioned rounds at a local course help pros build their PDGA rating,” Squires said. “It’s a friendly competition for everyone else not competing for cash.”

Each “Farragut Fling” will offer a morning and afternoon round on the same course. Participants will compete on the Northstar course this week. No players have hit an ace in any of the tournaments this year, which means more players may register to try and win an ace pot that already exceeds $200 since the course features several shorter holes. Players that pay $3 to enter the ace pot win all the money in it if they score a hole in one.

Up to 90 players can register for each event at pdga.com or at the course on the day of the event from 7-8:30 a.m.

The club will host a doubles event this Friday at the new 9-hole course Cutthroat. Sign-ups start at 4 p.m. and play will start a half an hour later.
