The very, very, very best action flicks

| July 12, 2017 1:00 AM

Star Wars (1977).

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).

Jurassic Park (1993; got you covered, Tyler).

A war, an ark and a park.

We dare you. Name three action and adventure thrillers that can match that trio of groundbreaking cinema-making.

From the humble Opinionator — a strange bald guy who pens three Press editorials a week — putting together a Top 10 list for Steve Cameron’s calculations proved to be fun and fairly easy. Cameron, whose first poll with The Press was music to hundreds of readers’ ears, is back at it with a summer movie survey. He wants you to name your Top 10 all-time action and adventure flicks, and his deadline is almost here: 5 p.m. today. Your poll must be emailed to him at: scameron@cdapress.com

Press readers’ Top 10 will be announced this Sunday, then Cameron can give his abacus a break.

Shall we continue?

The Terminator (1984).

Aliens (1986).

The Matrix (1999).

Oh, we’re good.

And we’re just gettin’ warmed up.

Next three:

Iron Man (2008), because one comic book hero is enough.

Goldfinger (1964), because Bond belongs.

Braveheart (1995), because men in skirts kick arse.

But now that we’ve got nine, and there’s only room for one more star in the action/adventure galaxy, the collar does feel a bit snug. The Ritz for uno mas. Eternal oatmeal for all the rest.

Well then: Number 10.

Jaws (1975). And no, we don’t give a shark’s tooth that many consider Jaws a mystery or horror. It’s action from the skinny dip scene to the depths of the grinding great white pursuit, and after watching it 18 times, it still makes us jump off the couch when that head suddenly appears in the gaping boat hole.

Beat that for action.

Just do it by 5.
