Bayley advances to match play

at Pacific Northwest Men’s Am

CRESWELL, Ore. — Derek Bayley of Rathdrum tied for seventh following 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying and easily advanced to the 64-man field for match play at the 116th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championship at Emerald Valley Golf and Resort.

Bayley, a former Lakeland High standout and rising senior at Washington State, shot 68-75—143, 1 under par. Sam Foust of Edina, Minn. shot rounds of 69-70, 5-under par, to earn the No. 1 seed entering match play.

The Round of 64 will be held today, followed by the Rounds of 32 and 16 on Thursday, and quarterfinals and semifinals on Friday, with the championship match on Saturday. Each match will be contested over 18 holes, with the exception of the final match, which will be played over 36 holes.

Ex-T-Wolf Johnson helps

Shadow women tie for league title

Former Lake City High standout Havana Johnson scored three goals last weekend as the Spokane Shadow women’s soccer team won a pair of games and finished tied for the Northwest Premier League regular-season title.

Johnson scored twice on Saturday in a 5-2 victory over Yakima United at Spokane Falls Community College. On Sunday, the McNeese State signee scored once in a 2-1 win over Fuerza FC at the Spokane Polo Grounds.

Meaghan Bare of Idaho State, another Lake City High product, had an assist in Saturday’s win.

Spokane (9-1-0, 27 points) finished tied with the Seattle Stars for first place, but the Stars held the tiebreaker thanks to a win over the Shadow earlier this season at Whitworth.

Both received byes to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
