Jonathan Durand Bell, 72

Jonathan Durand Bell, 72, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017, at North Idaho Hospice House. Born in Cumberland, Md., he grew up in Baltimore, Md., and graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

He moved to Kooskia, Idaho, in the 1970s, but returned to Maryland several years later with his family where he worked for Tate Engineering in Jessup. They returned to Idaho in 1990 and lived in Grangeville. He was a production boss and machine designer for Uhling/Militecc in Cottonwood. In 2006, he moved to Hayden and continued his engineering career with Helac until he retired in 2016.

A talented musician, he played the keyboard and sang with several area groups. He loved riding his motorcycle, flying remote controlled airplanes and drones, and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Aero Modelers Club.

He is survived by his daughters, Jonna Bell and Anna Peterson; granddaughter Noelle; brother Russel of Cape Coral, Fla.; two sisters, Susan Nelms of Haymarket, Va., and Carole Dean of Baltimore; several nieces and nephews; and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Jonathan’s memorial service will be private, but his family is having a celebration of life from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017, at his home.
