Baker's blast helps Northern Lakes split

RATHDRUM — Max Baker’s three-run homer capped a six-run first inning, and the Northern Lakes Mountaineers went on to beat the Orofino Merchants 11-1 in the second game of a class A North Idaho League doubleheader Friday at Gorton Field.

Orofino won the first game 5-4.

Baker finished with four RBIs. Andrew Neilson went 3 for 4 and scored three runs, and Austin Staudinger scattered three hits over five innings for Northern Lakes (22-12, 16-4 NIL).

Joe Streitzel went 2 for 4 and doubled in a run in the opener for Northern Lakes.

Northern Lakes plays a doubleheader at Coeur d’Alene on Sunday at Thorco Field, beginning at 1 p.m.

Lums drop two

at Boise tourney

BOISE — A five-run uprising in the bottom of the sixth inning that tied the game had the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen feeling pretty good.

Until the top of the seventh, when the Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels answered with eight runs and went on to beat the Lums 16-8 at the Boise Summer Series on Friday at Borah High’s Wigle Field.

Conner Conigliaro’s two-run single highlighted Coeur d’Alene’s big sixth inning, and Brett Stapleton stole home to tie the game at 8.

But Pocatello strung together six straight hits in the seventh.

Kallen Langley went 3 for 3 for the Lums, and Riley Alley hit a two-run single in the third.

In the first game Friday, the Lums mustered just two hits in an 11-1 loss to the Mid-Valley Pawsox at Borah High.

Coeur d’Alene (12-15), 1-3 at the tourney, wraps up pool play vs. the Boise Senators tonight at 7 PDT at Wigle Field.
