BAYVIEW — An Athol man drowned in Lake Pend Oreille when he reportedly fell off a dock and into the water late Saturday night in Scenic Bay, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Jarrod Tanner, 41, was reportedly seen falling off a dock and into the water near the end of dock D in Scenic Bay. When Tanner did not resurface, other citizens in the area attempted to locate him without success and called 911.

Shortly after 11 p.m., the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, along with units from Timberlake Fire and Northern Lakes Fire, Timberlake Fire and Life Flight, responded to a float house on dock D in Scenic Bay on Lake Pend Oreille.

Divers from the KCSO Dive Rescue Team arrived on scene and were able to locate Tanner in approximately 30 feet of water. Tanner was recovered approximately 23 minutes after the 911 call was received.

Tanner was handed over to personnel from Timberlake Fire and Northern Lakes Fire, who began life-saving efforts. After significant efforts by medical personnel, Tanner could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene, the KCSO said.

Foul play is not suspected, the KCSO said, and it is believed to be a tragic accident.
