Lums top Spokane Crew in eight innings at wood-bat tourney

COEUR d’ALENE — Bennett Cunningham singled to score Conner Conigliaro with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning as the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen knocked off the Spokane Crew 6-5 in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic at Thorco Field on Saturday.

Coeur d’Alene finished pod play 1-3 in the tournament, and will face the Edmonton Cardinals tonight at 7:30 at Thorco Field.

Conigliaro had three hits and two runs scored and Levi Haen two runs batted in for Coeur d’Alene (11-11).

Earlier, Matthew Gjevre went 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Lumbermen in an 8-7 loss to ICL.

Hunter Wabs drove in two runs for Coeur d’Alene (10-11) against ICL.

Northern Lakes splits in final day of pod play

SPOKANE — Jaret Taylor drove in five runs for the Mountaineers in a 16-7 win over Sherwood Park in the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Fourth of July wood bat classic at Gonzaga Prep.

Dustin Smith and Max Baker scored three runs each for Northern Lakes against Sherwood Park. The Mountaineers (19-8) finished pod play 2-2 and will face the Walla Walla Bears, the third seed from the West Valley Pod, today at 3:30 p.m. at West Valley High in Spokane Valley.

Earlier, Ryan Pote had two hits for the Mountaineers in a 4-1 loss to Calgary.
