MILESTONE BIRTHDAYS
Grace Jorgenson turned 100 years old on June 6, 2017!
Grace comes to Lake City Center Bingo with her son, Darryl, most Thursdays. On July 8, the Jorgenson family along with Bingo staff and volunteers and peers helped celebrate at the potluck party! Jorgenson family that attended: Daryl, Ernie, Karly, Brad and Red and Mariam Janusch.
Pictured here is Grace and an old Bingo buddy, Tom DePew, a U.S. Submarine Veteran World War II. They met at Bingo and had been playing for 25 years. They would take the bus ride to Coeur d’Alene Casino back when the route included Canada.
Grace was born June 6, 1917, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. At that time in 1917, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson announced World War I. Grace moved to Minot, N.D., USA and married her late husband, Harry Jorgenson. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1936. Together they purchased the Desert Hotel on First and Sherman. Daryl said, “Dad bought the City Center Hotel on 15th and Sherman too.”
After asking Grace what her “secret to longevity is” her kids piped in and said, “it has to be that she didn’t drink soda pop, alcohol or didn’t smoke cigarettes.” Her son Ernie said, “one of Mom’s greatest attributes is that she is giving and very honest.” You can see it in Grace’s smile everyday at Bingo.
