Genesis Prep tops Kootenai

HARRISON FLATS — Belle Murekatete scored eight of her game-high 20 points in the second quarter, and had 18 rebounds and eight steals, leading the Genesis Prep Jaguars past the Kootenai Warriors 52-33 in a North Star League game on Wednesday.

Kootenai led 19-18 after the first quarter, but were outscored 25-6 combined in the second and third quarter.

“We had a good, fast start and good pace at the start of the game,” Kootenai coach Doug Napierala said. “Things were going good and they started to get the ball into Bella on the block and it became something to deal with. She’s tough on the block and their defense kind of picked up. We went cold shooting, and didn’t convert much.”

Rachel Schroeder had 19 points and eight assists and Josie Scribner 10 rebounds for Genesis Prep (9-4, 5-1 NSL), which hosts Mullan on Saturday at Post Falls Middle School.

Paxton Dotson scored six of her 11 points in the first quarter for Kootenai (4-7, 3-4), which hosts Coeur d’Alene Charter on Friday.
