Rachel Raiche, 88

Rachel Raiche, 88, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away from her earthly home into eternal life in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jan. 18, 2017. Rachel was born April 10, 1928, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, and was the youngest of five children to Emille and Delia (Chabot) LaCroix.

Rachel and her sister, Francoise, were best of friends. Her three brothers, Noel, Laurent and George were protectors of their baby sister. They all loved music, singing, playing the piano, card games and being outdoors. Family gatherings around the kitchen table. Much fun was had at Little Lake Magog in the summers and ice skating during the winter months.

On Sept. 20, 1947, she married Sylvio L. Raiche, the love of her life. They had two children, a daughter, Johanne in 1949 and a son, Serge in 1952. In 1957 in search of the American Dream they moved to Southern California, where Sylvio, a tool and die maker, had found work. Deciding to be closer to family in Canada they eventually settled in Norwalk, Conn., raising their family.

Rachel loved to sew, doing needlepoint, drawing, painting just being a creative soul. After the children were grown she worked in a bridal shop, sharing her talents.

In 1989, retirement took them to Boynton Beach, Fla. Both loving the sunshine they enjoyed many beautiful golf courses, bowling, dancing, and fun visiting family and friends in Canada and the “good ‘ole USA” was always on their schedule. Traveling was a favorite pastime and relaxing on cruise ships was absolute joy. Visiting Europe and China was a highlight.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and husband.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, H. Johanne Haymond; son Serge D. Raiche (wife Dianna); grandchildren Richard D. Haymond, Michelle Y. Raiche and Zachary Raiche; stepson Jeffrey M. Haymond (Jeanette); great-grandchildren Corban, Aidan, Sylvio and Stella Pearl Haymond; and great-grandchild Dejalyn Raiche; many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family especially would like to thank their entire staff and new friends at Bristol Heights Assisted Living in Coeur d’Alene, for their loving care and lovely facility, and the Hospice team for their help with her journey into eternal life.
