RECYCLE: Start now

| February 12, 2017 12:00 AM

I am writing the letter to inform and make aware of the lack of recycling in our community from a student perspective. I’m a junior at Coeur d’Alene High School who is concerned about our environment and the deficiency with the recycling of our garbage.

I have witnessed the laziness and inactivity of trying to reuse or correctly dispose of our wastes in my school and my community. If we’re disposing of our garbage insufficiently in our school, it doesn’t just affect our school, it affects our community and environment.

When we throw things away, we are throwing away the good reusable items that can be used in a positive way other than being dumped into a landfill. Recyclable items like paper, cardboard, plastic, and aluminum are being thrown away every day and it can really put a negative impact in our area. We’ve seen how bad it is to not recycle and have all this trash add up on us, so we need to figure out a way to improve recycling and awareness of our communities’ resources and environment.

In my school recycling has been promoted, but it doesn’t always get done. I see students throwing away food and materials that could be reused for the greater good. I know it’s always hard to remember, but we need to realize the benefits and how we need to sustain our resources. Then what more could we do than just telling people to recycle? We need to act.
