DEMOCRATS: A dying breed?

| February 10, 2017 12:00 AM

“If Mr. Trump is truly successful in improving the lives of working class Americans, he may well deserve re-election.” This quote is from a letter to The Press, Feb. 5, by Paula Neils, who claims to be the Chair of the Kootenai County Democrats.

The Chair? Is that even possible? It’s almost inconceivable that any dyed in the wool Democrat would think such a thing, much less submit it for print and sign her name to it. And all the more incredible when you consider it’s referring to our current president, who, among other things, has boasted about his sexual assaults on women. That, by some standards, should have disqualified him from being elected even once.

This is a man who spreads discord, conflict and confusion routinely, impulsively as it appears, with no regard for the consequences. And there are, of course, possible consequences too terrifying to even think about. It wasn’t too long ago that there was a clear demarcation between the two political parties, even in Kootenai County. Not so much so anymore, apparently.

My fear is that the party of FDR is fast becoming irrelevant. A bitter pill, if there ever was one.
