Sandpoint continues to attract a healthy spectrum of tourists, retirees and those just looking for a beautiful place to live. Lake Pend Oreille serves as both a pristine backdrop and a source of bountiful summer recreation, and skiing at nearby Schweitzer Mountain Resort makes the North Idaho town a year-round destination.

Sandpoint was also named a top retirement destination in the upcoming January/February 2018 edition of “Where to Retire” magazine.

By the end of next summer, Sandpoint will also have a new premium living space in the heart of downtown that caters to both retirees and vacation-minded buyers. Sandcreek Lofts at Sandpoint Marina is a 13-unit vacation rental-style complex within walking distance of many of the town’s eclectic restaurants and shopping, as well as nearby Sandpoint City Beach and the boardwalk.

The complex, which can serve as a full-time or part-time residence or as a vacation property, is the latest project from Dover Bay Development, which is responsible for the neighborhoods at the Dover Bay Waterfront Community, located three miles from town along Lake Pend Oreille. Construction on the four-level Sandcreek Lofts is underway and expected to be complete by late summer/early fall 2018, with another building already planned for the near future.

“Downtown is missing some condos, and this is a really good price point at a really great location,” said Marie Garvey, director of sales and marketing for Dover Bay Development.

A few units are still available in Sandcreek Lofts, and those who act soon will still be able to select colors and finishes in their unit.

Everything about Sandcreek Lofts suggests premium living, with a contemporary/marina classic style that blends well with Sandpoint’s unique streetscapes. Quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances and luxurious carpeting and flooring are just a few of the standard features included. Units also include dark cabinetry that contrasts nicely with the lighter-toned flooring. Twelve-foot windows offer natural light and striking views that include the city, Trestle Creek, Lake Pend Oreille and Schweitzer Mountain, depending on location of the unit.

Each unit comes with a covered parking space, with additional overflow parking available nearby. Homeowners Association fees are purposefully being kept significantly lower than comparable properties, and Dover Bay Property Management will handle on-site maintenance and rental services.

The one- or two-bedroom homes boast welcoming open floor plans. Those looking to rent out their units can do so from long-term contracts down to single-day availability.

Homes on the boardwalk level range from 637 square feet to 990, with prices between $299,900 to $429,000. Lake street level offers a single bedroom, 645-square-foot property for $359,000, and a two-bedroom, 968-square-foot property at $429,000. Third- and fourth-level properties range from 643 to 900 square feet with prices ranging from $359,000 to $439,000.

The holiday season is an excellent time to check out progress as Sandcreek Lofts, as well as everything the Sandpoint area has to offer. Ski season is underway at Schweitzer, and Garvey said a few of Dover Bay’s bungalows and vacation-rentals are still available for Christmas and New Year’s. The Dover Bay Waterfront Community includes a fitness center, outdoor heated pool and spa, and other amenities to enhance a holiday ski vacation.
