Panhandle Symphony offers free concert Tuesday

| December 8, 2017 12:00 AM

Panhandle Symphony Orchestra will perform its fall concert next week in Coeur d’Alene.

The free performance will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 1765 W. Golf Course Road.

The symphony has prepared a variety of seasonal music along with several pieces.

Director Tim Sandford will begin the musical evening with the “March of the Toys” to please the youngsters in the audience.

Terry Jones and Phil Aahrus will play the “Concerto for two Trumpets” with orchestral accompaniment.

A special feature for the concert will be bassoonist Rich Beber. He has written a concerto for soprano saxophone and Sandford will have the Orchestra accompany Beber, on the solo sax, for its premier.

Leroy Anderson has written the “Christmas Festival” which contains a variety of familiar songs.

“The audience will undoubtedly find themselves singing along to the recognizable tunes,” said the symphony’s announcement of the concert.

Panhandle Symphony Orchestra has deep roots in the Coeur d’Alene musical community. It was originally formed in 2006 as the Fort Sherman Symphonette. The founding members formerly played together in other local musical groups. The orchestra was officially renamed in October 2009, and in 2010, the Panhandle Symphony Orchestra received its public charity status.
