Books for Christmas event happening now until 7 p.m. at Cd'A Library

Looking to do some gift shopping this afternoon? A variety of books by local authors are available right now at the “Books for Christmas” event going on until 7 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Public Library. Over 20 authors are represented at the event hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Chapter of the Idaho Writers League.

“You can support Coeur d’Alene’s local library and its lakefront senior center while buying books by local authors who will personalize each one with a greeting and signature, making unique purchases for those on your gift list or for your own holiday reading pleasure,” said the league’s announcement of the event. “Is that the Spirit of Christmas or what?”

The writers present include those who contributed to “An Ounce of Truth,” the anthology developed by the local writers league in honor of the 2017 Jewett House Centennial. Half the proceeds from anthology sales go to the Jewett House for maintenance of this Coeur d’ Alene treasure donated to the city by Potlatch Forest Industries in 1978. Featuring an introduction by local historian Robert Singletary, the book includes poetry, fiction and the real life story of its long-term caretaker.

Sponsored by Friends of the Library, who will supervise the event and provide refreshments, a portion of the proceeds will also go to their coffers for ongoing support of the library.

Authors will give brief “Speak and Read” presentations from 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. and 6:30 to 7 p.m. Book giveaways will take place throughout the event.

Genres represented at Books for Christmas include fiction focused on children, romance, mystery, sci-fi/fantasy and Westerns plus nonfiction material about biography, history and self-help.

Linda Shane’s “A Home for Wingtip” is sure to delight children on your list. Political thrillers are Ron Vergona’s specialty for adults. He has a five-book series, The Amber Restrained.

History buffs can learn much about the silent film industry from books by Larry Telles including Helen Gibson, Silent Serial Queen. Veterans, their families and anyone interested in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can benefit from Anna Goodwin’s self-help book on that subject.

Other local authors who will have their books available at Books for Christmas include Lila Bolme, Jack Castle, Kristen Cooper-Herby, Gary Edwards, Suzanne Ireland, Jennifer Leo, Carmen Lewis and Tana Lovett.

Also participating are Diane Markley, Toby Neighbors, Joyce Nowacki, Jim Payne, Matt Prescott and Tom Reppert.
