Cardinals fall to Western Wyoming, beat UNLV club

LAS VEGAS — Injuries struck the North Idaho College wrestling team, and that was well before the Cardinals even got on the airplane for Nevada this week.

Sophomore Trey Meyer tore the ACL in his left knee during practice on Tuesday and is awaiting an MRI later today. Sophomore heavyweight Damian Trujillo is competing with a torn meniscus, but will have surgery following the weekend in hopes of returning after the holiday break.

As for the duals, NIC lost 32-16 to Western Wyoming of Rock Springs and beat the UNLV club team 49-4 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“Esco (Walker), Damian (Trujillo) and Bryson (Beard) looked good tonight in their matches,” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “Due to some injuries, we had some backups that had a chance to get in the lineup. Our other guys need to be able to perform.”

NIC competes in the Cliff Keen Invitational today at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with wrestling starting at 9 a.m.
