Golf and spa 'highlight' Highlands living

The Highlands in Post Falls is a place many in the community enjoy because of its popular golf course, spa and unique dining options. It’s also a gorgeous neighborhood to call home, with a variety of prices and home sizes, as well as a gated community option.

Heidi Hershly, a Realtor with Keller Williams, currently represents a home in Highland Park Estates, though she’s also often at the golf course taking in a round.

“I’ve had a membership up at the Highlands for the last five years,” Hershly said. “I like the area — it’s a beautiful golf course, and it’s reasonably priced.”

Many homes in the Highland Park Estates are nestled along the 18-hole golf course, which is open to the public, and many others boast gorgeous views of the surrounding North Idaho mountains. The Highlands Course also has a full-grass driving range and large chipping and putting area.

The Highlands Grill and Tap House is a full-service restaurant open April to October and is known for its relaxed outdoor terrace and private event options.

“They rotate out microbrews, and I like that they have this beautiful covered veranda outside at the golf course,” Hershly said. “There are firepits, and it has awesome views.”

Hershly said the Highland Park skews a bit older — fewer kids and some snowbirds in the mix.

The neighborhood is extremely well-kept — not surprising for the location and surrounding amenities, but Highland Park Estates has no formal Homeowner’s Association. There are CC&Rs for construction requirements and upkeep of the houses, but architectural styles vary greatly, and neighbors obviously take pride in the upkeep of the neighborhood.

Both Highland Park and the gated Glen Garry Estates also boast homes with some aspect of exterior masonry work — in part because of previous and current building requirements. It adds a distinct visual flavor that separates the neighborhood from more traditional housing developments.

Hershly’s most recent market analysis on the Highlands area continues to offer encouraging news on area real estate sales. She said homes in the area have averaged about 120 days from listing to closing and that sale prices have averaged about 98 percent of asking price.

Yes, some of the higher end homes in the Highlands are understandably expensive, but there’s also a good mix of homes now available between $300,000 and $400,000. Prices go up into the $400,000s and $500,000 and up for larger homes, and location makes a difference. But with the variety of homes for sale currently, it’s definitely worth a drive through.

The Highlands Day Spa is also a major draw for residents and visitors alike. Services include massages, facials, mani-pedi and hair salon. The Highlands is also home to fantastic French cuisine at Fleur De Sel.

While the Highlands has its own private, exclusive feel, the entire area is a minute away from the main stretch of Post Falls, converging at Highway 41 and swift entry onto Interstate 90. There’s even a Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen about to open just down the hill, near another underrated fast-food player, Sonic Drive-In.
