WAYNE: Superior service

| August 16, 2017 1:00 AM

It’s not every day that dining out leaves you feeling inspired. That was my experience last weekend, when my family and I visited Red Robin at the Coeur d’Alene location.

The evening began like most dining experiences. We were greeted at the door by a smiling hostess, then promptly escorted to our table. Immediately, something seemed different about our waiter, Wayne. While taking our order, he called my mother “ma’am,” and my father “sir.” He displayed professionalism and care for us, was quick to notice our needs, and was even able to laugh following an order mishap. “Looks like they owe you a couple onion rings! No problem, they’re on their way.”

Wayne is a veteran of the United States Armed Forces. It had been quite the day at Red Robin. After some had failed to make their shift, it was left to Wayne and two others to serve a packed restaurant. “I told my boss, ‘I’m sorry, but I can’t give good service at those times.’” Though tired, Wayne retained his warm demeanor throughout our dining experience.

This letter is a “thank you” to Wayne, who turned a grueling day into an opportunity to serve others. It’s a recognition of everyone in customer service who works tirelessly, even during trying circumstances. Finally, this letter is to thank our Armed Forces for their sacrifice to our country. Your example of hard work and dedication is to be admired. You remind me to give others my best, no matter what.
