POST FALLS — Post Falls is offering to lighten its residents' load on Saturday.

A citywide spring cleanup will include a courtesy curbside pickup by Post Falls Sanitation starting at 6:30 a.m. and a free e-recycling, paper shredding and medication turn-in event at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Post Falls Police collected 152 pounds of unwanted or outdated prescription and over-the-counter medication last year. It disposes of the drugs through an incinerator.

"Proper disposal reduces the misuse (of drugs) and the possibility of contamination of drinking water," Post Falls Police Chief Scot Haug said. "The take back program has been used widely over the years and we are pleased with the success of the program."

Residents can also drop off TVs, computers, cellphones or any electronic items to be recycled by Urban Mining Depot. There will also be no charge for data or hard drive destruction.

Game systems, satellite dishes, stereos and Christmas lights will also be accepted.

Mountain West Bank will be available to shred documents.

The city will be giving out reusable insulated grocery bags, recycling/garbage pickup calendars and pencils for children.

The recycling promotional items are funded by a grant from Post Falls Sanitation aimed at reducing the impact on the landfill.

With the curbside pickup, all items must be bagged, bundled or in your garbage toter. They must not exceed 4 feet in length and 4 feet in width.

Furniture, tires, concrete, brick or hazardous material will not be picked up. Appliances will be picked up by appointment only, excluding refrigerators and air conditioners.

To schedule an appliance pickup call Post Falls Sanitation at 457-1820.
