Strawberry Fields - great neighborhood, needs more fruit

Driving through Hayden’s Strawberry Fields neighborhood can be educational to those unfamiliar with fruit.
Most of the streets in the development are named after berries — and it’s more variety than you might expect. Sure, you’ve got Blueberry Circle, and Raspberry and Strawberry lanes, but you probably wouldn’t expect a Salmonberry Loop.
Salmonberries, by the way, look delicious on Google, and the USDA plants website (plants.usda.gov, obviously) tells me they are ripe this time of year, are raspberry-like and consumed regularly in western Washington. I go there all the time and can’t remember a time when I ever ate a salmonberry. What am I missing?
Back to Strawberry Fields, the neighborhood that rests east of Atlas Road and north of Prairie Avenue. Its location, consistent upkeep and variety of home offerings make it a popular option for those looking in the area — it’s essentially the Hayden offshoot of the highly desirable Coeur d’Alene Place and its surrounding neighborhoods. Prairie can get you to Highway 95 and numerous amenities in just a couple minutes, which boasts restaurants, shopping and family-friendly activities like the Hayden Discount Cinema and Triple Play.
Even closer is the Chomper Café and Stoddard Park just in the next neighborhood east. Atlas Elementary sits in the northwest of the neighborhood. Prairie is also a fast pass to Highway 41 and Post Falls amenities. It’s not quite as good as a Fast Pass for Splash Mountain at Disneyland, but now I’m getting sidetracked again.
Megan Leary, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker, Schneidmiller Realty who represents a home in the neighborhood, said Strawberry Fields has always been an appealing neighborhood, even rivaling options in some of the newer developments.
“New construction is huge right now, which is why I like these kind of listings — they’re still pretty new,” Leary said. “They’re similar floor plans for new construction but you can get into them sooner.”
The home Leary represents is a five-bedroom, three-bath home with almost 2,500 square feet, listed at just under $289,000. There are many different styles and home sizes though, with ranchers, two-story homes and properties with basements included in the mix. Another current listing is a three-bedroom, two-bath home at 1,700 square feet for just under $260,000. Two more current listings give you more square feet and prices well into the $300,000s.
Another potential draw for buyers — Strawberry Fields includes a few homes on cul-de-sacs and loops that limit through-traffic. You’ll always be able to notice new people in the neighborhood — they’re the ones driving in circles looking for the exit.
