MILAN: An education champion

| September 25, 2016 9:00 PM

Many of my friends and neighbors bemoan the state of the public education system in Idaho. They point out our dismal national ratings, especially in the areas of early childhood education and per pupil spending, and the flight of qualified teachers to neighboring states. We all know that we have underfunded education in Idaho for years.

Our Idaho Constitution mandates that public education be funded appropriately by the state. We have failed so many of our children in the last two generations by ignoring this mandate. It is time our legislature takes responsibility and does the right thing. It is the least we can do to ensure that Idaho’s youngest citizens are prepared to succeed in the current job market.

Kristi Milan, a longtime educator, is running for State Senate in District 4. She will fight to fund our schools at the level that will allow us to retain good teachers and offer a quality educational experience for all of Idaho’s children. Vote for Kristi Milan on Nov. 8.
