PREP VOLLEYBALL: Timberlake repeats as champs

| October 21, 2016 9:00 PM

SPIRIT LAKE — The top-seeded Timberlake Tigers won their second straight 3A District 1 title Thursday night, sweeping the second-seeded Bonners Ferry Badgers 25-17, 25-12, 25-17 in the championship match.

“I thought we served well,” Timberlake coach Michelle Garwood said. “We moved the ball around and kept them out of their offense. I thought Glori Cheevers and Graci Allen controlled the net play. We were scrappy on defense, we had some phenomenal defensive plays.”

Jacquelyn Mallet had nine kills for Timberlake (20-10), which advances to state next Friday at Madison High in Rexburg. Kenzie Dean had 14 digs and Matraca Rocheleau had 33 assists and six aces.

The Badgers were paced by Miranda Wenk, who had six kills. Jerszie Pluid finished with six blocks, and Kadi Bateman had eight assists and 12 digs.

Bonners Ferry plays host to Priest River tonight for the district’s second berth to state. Priest River eliminated Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy in Thursday’s earlier match.
