HAYDEN — Runners will be on the road this Saturday in the Hayden area for the Hayden Lake Marathon, Half Marathon, and Quarter Marathon races.

All three races will start and end at Honeysuckle Beach. Organizers have been working closely with the Lakes Highway District, cities of Hayden and Hayden Lake, and the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office to plan a race that is safe for runners and community members. All roads in the area will remain open to traffic. Roads being used for the race will have cones placed to separate the runners from vehicular traffic.

The following areas will be impacted:

The marathon has approximately 50 runners and begins at 7:30 a.m. from Honeysuckle Beach. Runners will traverse counter-clockwise around the lake, to East Hayden Lake Road, Lancaster Road, English Point Road, North Lakeview Road, Miles Road, Strahorn Road, Hayden Ave, and back to Honeysuckle Beach. The winner is expected to complete the course around 10:20 a.m.

The half marathon begins at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to have approximately 200 participants. Runners will traverse on Chalet Road, Hayden Avenue, Strahorn Road, Miles Avenue, North Lakeview Drive, English Point Road, then west on Lancaster to Strahorn, Avondale Loop Road, Miles Avenue, Strahorn Road, Hayden Avenue, and back to Honeysuckle Beach. The winner will finish around 9:45 a.m.

The quarter marathon race will also have approximately 200 runners and will leave the beach at 9 a.m. and traverse up Chalet, to Hayden Avenue, then Strahorn Road, North Kensington Road, East St. James Road, then Avondale Loop Road, to Miles, Strahorn, Hayden Avenue, and Honeysuckle Beach. The winner will finish around 9:35 a.m.

The awards ceremony for all three races will be held at 1 p.m. at Honeysuckle Beach. This year’s start/finish line area at the beach will include food available for purchase from two food trucks — Giddy Up Go Espresso will have a full menu of coffee, smoothies, and other beverages, while Heritage Meats and More will be selling chicken wings, pulled meat sandwiches, and beer.

Participants in the marathon must be at least 18 years old, half marathoners must be at least 14 years old, and the quarter marathon is open to anyone 10 years of age or older.

Registration is open through 8 p.m. Friday with prices going up at midnight Wednesday. More information is available at www.haydenlakemarathon.org.
