| October 9, 2016 9:15 PM

Led by Ali Williams, Kelly Horning and Isabella Hollibaugh, the Coeur d’Alene Vikings finished fourth out of 64 teams at the Linda Sheridan Classic on Saturday in Spokane.

The Vikings (16-8) went 5-2 in the tourney, opening with wins over the Gonzaga Prep junior varsity, Eisenhower, East Valley, Freeman and Jackson. Coeur d’Alene lost to West Valley (Yakima) in the semifinals, then fell to Mead in the third-place match.

Williams had 46 kills, 55 assists, 32 digs and six blocks for Coeur d’Alene. Horning had 41 kills and six blocks, Hollibaugh 56 assists and 19 digs, Sam Swayze six aces, Carli Daniels five aces.

West Valley went on to beat Auburn Riverside in the title match to win the tourney for the second straight year.

Coeur d’Alene travels to Lake City on Tuesday.

Sandpoint finished tied 15th. Post Falls was 18th, Lake City tied for 25th, Lakeland 27th, St. Maries tied for 31st, Timberlake was 35th and Bonners Ferry was 54th.

For Sandpoint, Laney Search tallied 15 kills, 56 assists, 28 digs and five aces, and Kayla Neumann 33 kills, 22 digs and four aces to lead the Bulldogs.

Grace Kirscher posted 11 stuff blocks and 16 kills, McCalee Cain 36 assists, Grace Hicks 17 kills and Cheyenne Nicholson six aces for the Bulldogs (18-12), who went 3-3 during the tourney against some strong Washington schools.

“Incredibly long day, our wheels fell off in the late afternoon. My team is still working on consistency, showing up to every set with the same desire, mental focus and energy,” Sandpoint coach Erin Roos said. “These 10-11-hour tournaments are a real gut check. Valuable in building the stamina and grit required to win state championships. We played some large and strong Washington schools, and I was pleased with what I saw most of the day.”

Post Falls went 5-2, led by Allison Munday with 47 kills, 17 blocks and 26 digs. Kayla Mayo had 78 assists and nine aces, Sydney Parks 18 blocks, Cassidy Jackson 16 blocks, Macky Morris 31 digs.

“We had a great tournament,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “The girls played with a passion and fire we haven’t seen yet this year. I am looking forward to seeing what our team can do as we approach regionals.”
