NIC BASKETBALL: Cardinals hold off All-Star squad

| November 27, 2016 8:15 PM

COEUR d’ALENE — Lana Berg had 17 points and 10 rebounds for North Idaho College in a 73-67 win over the North Idaho All-Stars on Saturday at Rolly Williams Court.

“It was a good game,” NIC coach Chris Carlson said. “We were able to hold a little bit of an edge on them early. And it was everything we could do to get the ‘W.’”

Cierra Dvorak had 23 points, eight rebounds and four steals for NIC, which built a 40-27 halftime lead against the All-Stars, a selection of former NIC and area players.

“She was just able to use her speed and athleticism,” said Carlson of Dvorak. “She had 10 turnovers, but when you’ve got (ex-Lakeland High stars) Camille (Reynolds) and Natalie (Nichols) on her, they were just running some good players at her. She was able to make the defense come at her, and just handled the pressure well.”

Tanis Fuller, who played at Lewiston High and Lewis-Clark State, scored 15 points for the All-Stars.

“They’re a very good team and played hard,” said Carlson of the All-Stars. “I was legitimately worried about this game. They had a lot of speed on the court and had just some good guards. We were happy to get out of the game with the win.”

NIC (2-2) will face Everett in the Bulldog Classic at Bellevue College on Friday at 3 p.m.
