Charles James O'Malley III, 68
On Nov. 19, 2016, Chuck O’Malley passed away at Hospice of Spokane after a long battle with cancer. Chuck was born on Jan. 9, 1948, at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Long Beach, Calif., and lived in Havelock, N.C.; Quantico, Va.; Garden Grove, Santa Ana and Truckee, Calif.; Hayden Lake and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Anchorage, Alaska, Spokane and Liberty Lake, Wash. Chuck loved life and was happiest when around family and friends. Chuck enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating from high school during the Vietnam War. He returned home to Coeur d’Alene, got his degree from North Idaho College and went to work for Hagadone Newspapers. He later moved to Alaska to work in the oilfields in construction management and spent the next 18 years working in Alaska, Louisiana, Canada and Russia. He retired to Liberty Lake, Wash., in 2007 to care for his 11-year-old son.
Chuck is survived by his son, CJ (Charles James O’Malley IV) of Liberty Lake; sister Maureen Edgar (husband Robert) of Richland, Wash.; sister Kathy Roberts of Liberty Lake; brother Patrick O’Malley (wife Katya) of Orlando, Fla.; brother-in-law Rod Dougall of Liberty Lake; nieces Kathy Taylor and Katie O’Malley; nephews Bret Roberts, Paul and Tom Taylor, and Conor O’Malley; and cousins Phil and Shirley Ladd of Carmel, Calif.
Chuck was preceded in death by his younger sister, Mary Margaret (O’Malley) Dougall and loving niece, Kara Roberts.
Chuck wanted to thank the numerous doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital in Spokane and Cancer Care Northwest for their care and assistance along with the staff of Valley Hospital, Horizon Hospice and Hospice of Spokane for their wonderful care and many kindnesses.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
