12Ks of Christmas run is just around the corner

COEUR d’ALENE — The second 12Ks of Christmas run to benefit local high school music programs is taking place Dec. 3 at North Idaho College.

The run is held in memory of local athlete Andrea Rainey, who died from cancer last year. She planned the first run before she passed, said race coordinator Tom Aylward.

"She was loved by all," Aylward said. "We appreciate you coming out to support our race and the music departments at local high schools. This is a nice tribute Andrea."

The run begins on campus at 9 a.m. in parking lot D and will go along Lake Coeur d'Alene on the North Idaho Centennial Trail. High school musicians will be caroling and performing at every "K" on the route. Proceeds will support music programs at Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy, Coeur d'Alene, Lake City and Post Falls high schools.

About 85 people participated last year and the first 125 racers this year will receive a commemorative beanie.

Tickets are $20 for a 5K run or $25 for the 12K and can be purchased at Fleet Feet, 511 Sherman Ave., from 2-6 p.m. Dec. 2 or at 8 a.m. the morning of the race. Tickets can also be purchased at www.eventbrite.com/e/12ks-of-christmas-tickets-26929626237.
