Serious crash injures 3
Three men were injured this afternoon at a two-vehicle collision at Huetter and Lancaster.
Brenden Keith, 27, of Post Falls, was driving a 1995 Saturn 4 door northbound on Huetter when he ran a stop sign at the intersection of Huetter and Lancaster just after 3 p.m. His car struck a 1985 Ford F250 Utility Truck driven by 45-year-old Matthew Free, who was traveling westbound on Lancaster. Free's truck then struck a power pole. Richard Powell, a passenger in Keith's car, was ejected. Free was trapped in his truck until he was extracted by emergency crews. Powell and Free were transported to Kootenai Health.
The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office stated in a press release that Keith was treated for minor, non-life threatening injuries, Free remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition, and Powell is in critical condition.
The Sheriff's Office reported that although marijuana and paraphernalia were found in Keith's car, there are no signs that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
The intersection was closed for more than four hours.
