George Taylor, 89
George Earl Taylor, the patriarch of the Taylor Clan, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2016. He passed quietly in his sleep after a six-year battle with dementia.
He is survived by his older brother, Bill Taylor of Tulsa, Okla.; his younger sister, Marie Ducasse Taylor of Los Osos, Calif.; sons Jordan Taylor of Hayden, Idaho, and Monty Taylor of Sandpoint, Idaho; grandchildren Stephanie McNulty Taylor of Gainesville, Fla., Rachel Boltz Taylor of Colfax, Wash., John Boltz Taylor of Post Falls, Idaho, and Mayla Ryals Taylor of Sandpoint; godfather to, Cindy Liddell of Cedar Key, Fla., Jessie Hoye of Oakland, Calif., Brian Boltz and Jessica Boltz of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
George was born June 3, 1927, in Florence, Colo., to Charles and Eva Taylor. He lived in Seminole, Okla., then moved with his family to Walnut Creek, Calif. He was in Boy Scouts for three years. He sold war bonds and helped collect aluminum scrap for the World War II war effort. He attended Richmond Union High School, class of 1948, and then attended the College of Marin and received an A.A. degree in 1950. He was a merchant Marine aboard the USS General W.H. Gordon (AP-117) section 33-B, and then a radio operator in the USAF, Korea.
After his discharge from the Air Force, George attended Leland Stanford Junior University, then went on to be a graduate of Stanford University, School of Law, class of 1959. He received a Doctor of Jurisprudence and was the editor and chief of the Stanford Law Review. He married Ruth Eileen Wildabaur and moved to Ventura, Calif., where he became a Deputy District Attorney for Ventura County, then had a private practice in Camarillo and Oxnard, Calif. He served as the Democratic Chairman of Ventura County and was a judge for a short time, while serving in the 1st and 36th District. He had an unsuccessful run for Congress in 1964.
He was on the board of directors for the Camarillo Boys and Girls Club, and a member of the Optimist Club of Ventura County, Calif. He moved to Idaho in 1995 and became an entrepreneur in land investment.
George was a master woodworker, a historian who could tell you about history as if he had been there himself! George loved golf and was a member of the Hayden Lake Country Club, as well as Avondale Golf Club. He was a Democrat through and through and fought hard for the rights of the “little guy” as he would say. He was a lifelong member of the Irish Democratic League of Great Britain. He had always thought that the rich owed a debt to the people that made you rich. He donated his time and money to many a worthwhile cause! He was loved by many and did agitate a few because they deserved it!
If you want to honor him, he would say, “donate your time and/or money to a charity of your choice.”
George, you were a mentor to so many and you touched the lives of countless people. Your kindness, caring and giving nature helped your family and friends through good and bad. You will be missed father! Now you belong to the ages! R.I.P. my loving daddy and best friend! George Taylor was 90 years, 5 months and 15 days old.
