Giving thanks for our favorite turkeys

Shake a leg and wing it, readers. It’s almost turkey time!

On this, the most gastrointestinally gratifying day of the year, we prepare to feast on football with all the fixins: Turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, bruised ribs and sprained ankles.

As our 12 combatants gather ’round the Coeur d’Alene Press All-Star Pigskin Prognosticators Thanksgiving Day table, a quick elbow or surreptitious foot stomp is to be expected. Heck, there’s three games on TV and an abundance of refreshment in the fridge and on the wet bar. You thought these gridiron guessers competing for free advertising for the charity of their choice would play nice all day? Wish their opponents the best of luck and then shake hands after receiving an arse-whuppin?

As a matter of fact that’s exactly what we think. Because today and today only, it’s all about giving thanks. And today, The League is thankful for these 12 community leaders who suffer NFL season-long public scrutiny that would make a political candidate wither, unless he’s Donald Trump.

Thanks, Jeff and Ryan, for giving shelter.

Thanks, Blaine and Tim, for teaching our children well.

Thanks, Eve and Rob, for getting us all safely down the road.

Thanks, Jeff and Mark, for making our Thanksgiving Day relaxation complete.

Thanks, Duffy and John, for the fine roofs over our heads.

And thanks Vic and Steve, for ruling not with iron fists but with open arms.

Thanks to all of you, our community is truly blessed.

Now, who’s ready for some football? This week’s picks can be plucked on Page B5.
