Caramel Kitchen in Silver Lake Mall
A micro-creamery that specializes in its own hand-crafted salted caramel sauces, Caramel Kitchen has opened in the food court of Silver Lake Mall.
The business has a retail area and a windowed corner where the employees handcraft the caramel sauces from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The current flavors include classic salted caramel, bourbon, chocolate, cinnamon vanilla, chipotle, espresso, pumpkin spice, Irish cream and caramel syrup (a favorite in coffee).
Owners Brad and Stephanie Hunter started making caramel sauces for gifts five years ago. By 2015 she was shipping it all over the country. The family participates in the Farmer’s Market and has seasonal kiosks in the Spokane Valley and Northtown malls. Other employees are Karen Bottcher and Erin Bottcher.
The retail portion is open Silver Lake Mall hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Phone 618-5055. Check www.caramelkitchen.com.
New Walmart-brand station for Post Falls
The Walmart company has begun to build and service its own gas stations. And one is under construction on East Mullan Avenue in Post Falls.
The Mirastar-Tesoro gas station formerly at nearly the same site was demolished years ago to make way for Burger King. The new place should open near year’s end. It may include a small convenience store.
Now for the Tidbits
- The correct website for the soon-under-construction Cash & Carry store south of Appleway is www.smartfoodservice.com.
- Watch for Kitchen CDA in the Silver Lake Mall food court and Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant to be where Skipper’s was off Highway 95 next to Silver Lake Mall (which Skipper’s is now inside). A Cosmic Cowboy Grill will be at Highway 95 and Haycraft, Gross Donuts where Freedom Burrito was off Highway 95, an office of Waddell & Reed at 320 E. Neider and Advance Auto Parts and The Beauty Lounge on Sunset Avenue.
- In Hayden watch for Young Chefs’ Academy in Prairie Shopping Center, a new eatery (Asian?) where Kynrede Cafe was and a gas station-convenience store in the southwest corner of Highway 95 and Lancaster.
- A major development called The Crossroads is proposed for Athol. Watch for details. We anticipate a Super 1, a bank, coffee shop, a motel, a gas station-convenience store, a restaurant and others.
- Downtown watch for Sweet Lou’s Restaurant and Tap House in the Parkside building on Front Avenue, Rustic Restaurant at 309 Sherman (next to Clark’s Jewelry), Community First Bank at 504 Sherman and STCU at 401 Front.
- We also have Advanced Health Care and Schini Family Dentistry building new places in Riverstone. Sweeto Burrito is building near Winco, and Express Employment Professionals will move into the Winco (Crossroads) complex. The Shilo Inn on Appleway will become a Comfort Suites with a major remodel.
- New places in Post Falls will be Corby’s Tavern at Seltice and Elm, Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, Green & Grounds Coffee Shop, Cricket Wireless, Silverlake Automotive and The Lean Bean.
- New places coming to the revised Post Falls Outlet Mall include Riverstone Apparel, Black-Ops Self Defense, My Big Fat Greek Deli, a comic book store and a coffee espresso store.
- In writing, avoid starting a sentence with “There.” It forces a boring “to be” verb. “There are five deer running in the forest” should be “Five deer run in the forest.”
- The color gray is “gray,” not “grey,” which usually is part of a brand name.
- Last week we took an exit to historical downtown Butte, Mont. The old brick, stone and wooden buildings are really grand, but not much is open on a November Sunday morning. The old mansions on up the hill are awesome.
