Ostir sends Chiefs past Calgary

SPOKANE — Hayden Ostir scored his first goal of the season 2:11 into the third period to give the Spokane Chiefs the lead for good, as they beat the Calgary Hitmen 5-2 on Friday night in Western Hockey League in front of 4,547 at Spokane Arena.

Spokane won for the first time in regulation for the first time since Oct. 28 at Prince Albert,

Kailer Yamamoto scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season one minute later to make it 3-1. Yamamoto has scored a goal in five straight games and has scored a point in nine straight.

Tyson Helgesen’s goal made it 4-1 midway through the third. Ondrej Najman scored his first career goal to cap the scoring for Spokane.

Spokane (8-7-4-1) is still tied for third in the U.S. Division and it will host Kamloops tonight at 7:05 p.m.
