That's a lot of pot; 83 pounds of marijuana found during traffic stop

A traffic stop turned into a major drug bust Thursday in Shoshone County.

Marijuana - 83 pounds of it, with an estimated street value of $338,000 - was discovered in a Cadillac CTS an Idaho State Police trooper stopped at milepost 68 on Interstate 90.

The trooper pulled the vehicle over after observing numerous traffic violations, according to a press release issued by ISP District One Captain J. Kempf.

The vehicle's occupants, Seng Christopher Xiong, of St. Paul Park, Minn., and Chen Chang Yang, from Vadnais Heights, Minn. were arrested after the trooper became aware criminal activity was occurring and used his drug detection K-9 to conduct an air sniff of the vehicle.

The K-9 alerted to the presence of the illegal drugs it is trained to detect and a probable cause search revealed 83 pounds of high grade marijuana in the Cadillac.

A semi-automatic rifle was also discovered in the vehicle.

It was also determined Yang had an extraditable felony warrant out of the State of Minnesota for being a fugitive from justice.

Xiong and Yang were booked for Trafficking in Marijuana-More than 25 pounds and Yang was also booked on being a fugitive from justice.
