Ceremonies to honor veterans
HAYDEN — A ceremony honoring veterans will be held at 11 a.m. today at City Hall.
Government Way from Orchard to Honeysuckle will be closed today from 10:50 a.m. to noon.
Margaret Ogram will be recognized as the 2016 Distinguished Veteran award winner. Ed Santos, a retired Army officer and Department of Defense military instructor and owner of Center Target Sports in Post Falls, will speak.
A reception inside City Hall will be held after the ceremony. Refreshments will be served.

COEUR d'ALENE
American Legion Post 14 will hold a ceremony today at McEuen Park from 10:30 a.m. until about 11:45 a.m. After introductions and a short prayer, the recently restored Veterans Bell will be rung 11 times at 11:11 a.m. Army veteran Jacques Croom will speak to attendees following the bell ringing ceremony. Once Croom’s remarks are concluded, students from Woodland Middle School will sing.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889 will present the colors at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Four World War II veterans over 100 years old will be honored at the Brookdale assisted living facility, 205 E. Anton Ave., at 3:30 p.m., today.
RATHDRUM
American Legion Post 154, Northwest Guardian Riders and the city of Rathdrum will hold a recognition ceremony on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Lakeland High School.
There will be special prizes for the youngest and oldest veterans and World War II veterans.
All veterans attending will be entered for drawings.
Cake, ice cream and cookies will be served.
The women's quartet Amore will sing.
POST FALLS
School assemblies will be held today at New Vision High School at 9 a.m.; Post Falls Middle School, 1:40 p.m.; River City Middle School, 9 a.m.; Prairie View Elementary, 9 a.m.; Greensferry Elementary, 1:30 p.m.; Mullan Trail Elementary, 9 a.m.; Seltice Elementary, 1:05 p.m.; Ponderosa Elementary, 9:30 a.m.; and West Ridge Elementary, 1:30 p.m.
Veterans will welcome Post Falls High students to school today at 7:30 a.m. Students will serve veterans breakfast at 8 a.m.
