PIGSKIN PROGNOSTICATORS: Pickers penalized for not being presidential

In case you hadn’t noticed, these prognosticators are pretty good.

Here we are doing our friendly wagering for a dozen great local charities for the 10th week of the NFL season, and every one of our Coeur d’Alene Press All-Star Pigskin Prognosticators has a winning record.

Some of them are winning big.

Steve Griffitts (playing for Kootenai Health Foundation) and Ryan Davis (St. Vincent de Paul) lead the pack with overall records of 87-44-2. But close behind are Blaine Bennett (Jeff Hinz Fund) and Mark Koerner (Coeur d’Alene food bank). Koerner won Week 9 with a Trump-like 11-2 smackdown of his foes.

While John Gervais (Holidays & Heroes) and Jeff Conroy (Boys & Girls Club) are well behind the leaders of the pack, we’ve seen greater upsets in the not-too-distant past. Tuesday night, as a matter of fact.

What we don’t have, The League laments, is the kind of strife and subterfuge on the Pigskin Prognosticators playing field that America experienced during the presidential campaign. Despite strong encouragement and the occasional bribe to be nasty, our pigskin pickers persist in presenting a pleasant package in public.

Booooo. And bo-ring.

We’d like to hear some good insults exchanged, maybe a secretly recorded tirade exposed. If ever there was a place for locker room talk, folks, this is it.

Playing nice is fine in grammar school but this is the Big Time. Come on, Eve and Duffy. Fling some mud like Hillary and Donald!

This week’s picks are on Page B5. They’re accompanied by too many smiley faces.
