With the right wavelength, appropriate settings and accurately spaced time between treatments, laser hair removal is incredibly effective and results in 90 percent permanent hair reduction. Many patients ask why this is not 100 percent. The fact is, as we age, we go through hormonal changes. These hormonal changes can trigger new hair growth patterns. Sometimes women will produce hair growth on their face after menopause.

Laser hair removal works by using specific wavelengths of light. The laser light is attracted to the pigment in the hair and travels down the shaft creating a “thermal injury” to the follicle. This trauma to the follicle is what prevents future growth. It’s important to note that lasers cannot effectively treat gray, red, blonde or baby fine hair.

Hair grows in three phases. This is why it’s so important to maintain consistent time-lapse between each treatment. Each laser treatment will affect only the hairs in the active growth phase. Therefore, we time the treatments to synchronize the active growth phase, maximizing the number of hairs treated at each interval. Body hair should be treated every 6 weeks while facial hair should be treated every four weeks. In order to achieve 90 percent hair reduction, you will need eight carefully timed treatments.

Laser hair removal was approved by the FDA in the ’90s and is considered a safe and effective way to permanently remove hair. This fall, our laser hair packages are very affordable. Call now to schedule your complimentary consultation!
