Robert Dean Louthan, 76
On Nov. 4, 2016, the world lost a wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, as well as great friend to many.
Robert (Bob) was born in Lusk, Wyo., on Aug. 31, 1940, to Frances (McFarlane) and Merle Louthan. His family moved to Rathdrum, Idaho, when he was 11 years old, where he resided until he joined the Navy.
On June 19, 1969, he married Mary Pendergrass in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They raised three children, Dwayne, Cindy and Lee Ann in various cities, states, and even countries.
Bob spent 22 years as a Machinist Mate on numerous submarines, traveling the world and achieving the rank of Senior Chief, until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he worked for General Dynamics/Electric Boat Division, a submarine contractor until October 1991, when he and his wife, Mary, moved back to his hometown of Rathdrum. At which time, he built the home they have both resided in for the past 25 years.
His hobbies and interests include fishing, hunting, trapshooting and woodworking. Bob was a jack of all trades and was always eager to help a friend or family in any way he could. In his later years, he enjoyed meeting his childhood friends for coffee/breakfast. Bob was a member of Rathdrum Masonic Lodge No. 41, Shriners and Scottish Rites. He was also awarded Worshipful Mason of the Year for the state of Idaho in 2016.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louthan of Rathdrum; son Dwayne Painter (Ida) of Charleston, S.C.; daughters Cynthia James of Hayden, Idaho, and Lee Ann Myers (Scott) of Rathdrum; grandchildren Tyler, Megan, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Joshua and Ashlyn; sister Nancy Darlas (John) of Coeur d’Alene; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Frances Louthan; and brothers Joe, Jack and Richard Louthan.
