NIC WRESTLING: Four Cardinals place at tourney

| November 7, 2016 8:00 PM

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Alex Aguilar (174 pounds) and Cooper Thomas (285) each placed third for North Idaho College on Sunday at the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University.

Jeremy Merryweather (197) was fourth, as was Trey Long (125) for the Cardinals.

Aguilar won in double overtime over Weston Dobler of Oregon State in the third-place match. Thomas pinned James Millea of OSU in the third-place match.

Long lost his third-place match on a takedown with two seconds left.

“And all the other guys got a ton of matches, and that’s what we were looking for,” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “We had three weigh-ins (on this road trip, which included duals Thursday and Friday), a grind of a trip, and a weigh-in at 7 a.m. this morning. It was a good trip.”

NIC welcomes the University of Great Falls on Saturday in its home opener.
