Here's your Election Day primer

COEUR d'ALENE — On Tuesday, Kootenai County residents will join the rest of the nation in casting their votes for the candidates of their choice.

Multiple national, state, and local races will be decided on Tuesday, with eligible voters in Kootenai County heading to their polling locations from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. According to local elections officials, many have already taken advantage of early-voting opportunities.

Carrie Phillips, Kootenai County elections manager, told The Press that as of Friday, her office had received 11,530 filled-out absentee ballots. Absentee ballots must be received at the county elections office, located at 1808 N. Third St. in Coeur d'Alene, by 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Phillips said a total of 13,565 absentee ballots were mailed out to county residents.

Early voting at the county elections office, which was open from Oct. 17 through Nov. 4, saw a total of 8,534 eligible voters participate.

Registered voters should bring a photo ID with them to cast their ballot, or they may sign a Personal Identity Affidavit instead.

Voters who have moved or changed names must re-register. They, and new registrants, must bring a photo ID and proof of residency with their current address listed, dated at least 30 days prior to their voting location.

Tuesday’s general election ballots include the following:

• President of the United States

• Idaho 1st District Congressman

• One State Senate seat and two State Representative seats in each of the county's 3 Legislative districts

• Supreme Court Justices

• Magistrate Judges

• One State Constitutional Amendment

• Kootenai County Commissioner in District 2

• Kootenai County Commissioner in District 3

• Kootenai County Sheriff

• Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney

• Kootenai-Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District — Supervisors

• North Idaho College Trustee Zone 3, Trustee Zone 4, Trustee Zone 5

No party affiliation is required for Tuesday’s election. Anyone with questions should call the elections office at 446-1030, and more information on local elections can be found at www.kcgov.us/elections.
