MARATHON: Community comes together

Runners from all corners of our local communities converged on Honeysuckle Beach on Saturday, Oct. 15, for the fourth running of the Hayden Lake Marathon, Half Marathon, and Quarter Marathon. Working together side by side, representatives from the Hayden Chamber of Commerce, the Hayden Senior Center and the Coeur d’Alene High Cross Country teams worked together for 11 months to plan one of Hayden’s largest events.

A total of 460 runners participated in the three distances with 53 runners in the marathon, 260 in the half marathon and 147 in the quarter marathon. The event is a local favorite with 95 percent of the participants coming from Idaho and Washington.

A special thank you to this year’s sponsors including title sponsor: Tessendorf Family Chiropractic. Platinum Sponsors: Numerica Credit Union, Spokane International Airport and Mountain West Bank. Gold Sponsors: Action Sports Media, Tran Creative and the North Idaho Building Contractors Association. Silver Sponsors: The Kroc Center, Clearwater Springs, Knudtsen Chevrolet, P1FCU, Idaho Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy, Active Family Healthcare, The Fairgrounds, Kootenai Health, Heritage Meats and More, Avondale Dental and Perlworks. Bronze Sponsors: The Joel Pearl Group, White Pine Wealth Management-Brian Babb, Idaho Trust Bank, Inland Northwest Bank, Les Schwab-Hayden, Avista, Coeur d’Alene Garbage and Snap Fitness.

An event like this doesn’t happen without the 100s of volunteers that play a vital role and the important collaboration with the Lakes Highway District and the cities of Hayden and Hayden Lake. Special thanks to Suzie Cano and Ron Reno of the city of Hayden and their staff who provided volunteers and expert assistance.

It’s amazing to see the great community support, the family of spectators, the high school students working their aid stations and the pure athleticism that make this event so much fun. We hope to see you all in 2017!

Sincerely,

NANCY LOWERY, race director

and the Hayden Lake Marathon Committee

In addition, we extend a giant thank you to Michael Koep and The Rub for donating their dynamic talent and to Dave and Janet Pulis for graciously providing The Rocker Room as the venue.
