STATE PREP SWIMMING: Viking boys seek third state title in four years
The Coeur d’Alene boys swim team will attempt to win a third state title in the last four years starting today at the state meet at the Boise City Aquatics Center.
Coeur d’Alene finished second last year after winning titles in 2013 and 2014.
Coeur d’Alene’s 4x200-yard medley relay team of juniors Gabe Markowksi, Cole Curtis and Sam Fredrickson and sophomore Karter Rasmussen has the top time in the state at 1 minute, 42.88 seconds. Rasmussen is second in the 500 freestyle at 5:00.32 and the school’s boys 400 freestyle relay team of Markowski, Rasmussen, Curtis and junior Tristian Whitling is third at 3:31.44. Junior Emily Dietz has the top time in the girls 100 backstroke at 59.38. Lake City’s girls 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Torianna Wilson, freshmen Sara Kaitz and Hailey Pierce and junior Brianne Gundlach is third with a time of 3:53.39.
Prelims are scheduled for today. Championship finals are scheduled for Saturday beginning at 9:45 a.m. PDT.
