HISTORY: Report it accurately

| November 4, 2016 9:00 PM

Syd Albright does not have his ducks in a row. It seems to me like he is garnering his information from creationist museums. But that is neither here nor there. He quotes Josephus. Any historian can tell you that Josephus is considered a rather humorous figure. Froissart is considered the first journalist, although I think that is just due to the arrogance of Western Europeans. Josephus is the first Journalist, but he was a YELLOW journalist.

Before the fall of Jerusalem he wrote about Herod the Younger sleeping with his sister Berenice. After Titus destroyed Jerusalem he went to Rome and became a big player. He was never taken seriously by true historians. Compare the writings of Livy to the writings of Arrian when they describe the life of Alexander the Great. It was well-known that Livy embroidered his stories, whereas Arrian only wrote what he knew to be true.

As for the Bible, aw c’mon. The Bible is just a big story. When Sir Francis Bacon and other scientists tried to convince people that the Earth revolved around the sun and other scientific facts, they were met with resistance from people who still believed that Joshua could not have stopped the sun in the sky if this was true.

They also argued with Aristotle, a man who never did any empirical research. Aristotle believed that women had two fewer teeth than men. People fought Isaac Newton’s law of gravity because they still believed Aristotle. Aristotle was believed into the 20th century, when his nonsense about heart surgery was still embraced.

Syd Albright is a man who wants to embrace the past. Americans, I ask you to embrace the present and the future!
