More parking for early voting

COEUR d'ALENE — The city of Coeur d'Alene announced Wednesday that a portion of East Poplar Avenue near the Kootenai County Elections Office has been turned into temporary "Election Only" parking due to many community members participating in early voting.

According to a news release from the city, the elections office located at 1808 N. Third St. has limited parking. Many people, the release adds, are choosing to cast their ballots in this year's general election earlier than Nov. 8 and because of this the county has seen substantial impact to voters’ ability to park at the office in order to participate.

"After experiencing the large amount of traffic, the county sought assistance from the city," the release states. "Closure of Poplar appears to be the easiest quick solution to assist voters in participating in early voting, based on review by the Coeur d’Alene Streets and Engineering and Police Departments."

According to the release, East Poplar Avenue between Third and Fourth streets will be closed to normal parking, and instead will only be for those trying to participate in early voting. The temporary closure to general parking will be lifted at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the end of early voting.
